East Haven

Sr Barbara Connell, SCMM: Retired Hospital Chaplain

Sr Barbara enjoys riding her bike, meeting monthly to share ideas with her book club at Mercy Center;
and also taking part in weekly gatherings of her Small Christian Community within the parish to discuss the scripture readings for Sundays.

She serves the Post Province as Treasurer.

She also volunteers at the East Haven United Community Kitchen.
This program allows for people to come together in a hospitable surrounding to receive a free, delicious home cooked meal twice a month.

Sr Barbara Ann Valentine, SCMM: Retired School Psychologist

She deals with lung disease which limits her movement. She receives oxygen 24 hours a day/seven days a week.
Her ministry involves knitting hats and scarves for the homeless. She works with "Midnight Run"- a group connected to church.

Once she has 15 to 20 hats and scarves completed, she puts each set in a plastic bag and boxes them up. She then calls her contact person for a pick-up.

This group goes once a month and brings food, clothing and personal products to the homeless men and women of New Haven.
She hopes to have 20 to 25 sets ready for the winter.

Sr Janice Buszta, SCMM: retired High School teacher

She has been one of the regular tutors in the ESL (English as a Second Language) program in the New Haven area for several years.
This program was established by the Dominican Sisters of Peace to provide basic literacy skills for developing and building self esteem and empowerment.

It provides adults with conversational skills to enhance their ability to converse with others in this nation of so many diverse cultures and languages.
